Peacock in the Park went full bloom this weekend at Portland’s Rose Garden.
Once again, Peacock in the Park took center stage at the Washington Park amphitheater on Sunday afternoon, attracting thousands to the Rose Garden for this annual fundraiser for the Audra M Edwards scholarship fund. The performances that took place onstage rivaled the surrounding roses in terms of vibrant colors and sheer audacity.
Co-hosted by Poison Waters and Maria Peters Lake, the free event featured features performances by local legends like Monica Boulevard, Bolivia Carmichael and the one and only Darcelle XV. There were also plenty of non-lip-synched live performances by several up and coming Portland artists.
And in a complete surprise to everyone but one of the grooms, Dwayne Witzel (aka drag performer Lotta Liquor) proposed and married his longtime partner Greg Baumgardner during his performance at Peacock. Not a dry eye was in the park following that particular performance/ceremony officiated by Carlos Ramirez Quezada (aka Meesha Peru).
Many wondered how Peacock would top its triumphant return to the park in 2014. With rolling skating drag queens, Broadway-worthy productions and a real, live wedding there was no doubt in any one’s mind that Peacock was once again an event unlike anything else in Portland.
